About Franklin, WI

Franklin is a suburb of Milwaukee in Milwaukee County, named after Benjamin Franklin when the town was formed in 1839. It became a city in 1956, and it counted 36,816 residents at the 2020 census. Oak Creek borders it to the east, with Greendale, Hales Corners and Greenfield to the north and Racine County to the south.

The Root River runs south through Franklin and divides the city. U.S. Highway 45 and state highways 36, 100 and 241 run through the city, and Interstate 94 is close by. The city is also about four miles from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. With that many main roads, a typical week can mean plenty of stop-and-go driving, which is hard on brakes and transmissions.
